I have a passion for design and a problem solving nature that has made for many Mountain Dew fueled, late nights on the computer and I love it.
I am self taught, and must say that I have always been partial to other self taught designers when hiring because it tells me that they have the drive and passion to succeed in this field. That when there is a challenge, they will find a solution. Because that is exactly how they became designers in the first place.
In the last few years I have shifted my focus primarily to web design, because in my humble opinion it is vastly more challenging then print. Usability, functionality, technology and search engine voodoo are dynamic challenges a web designer faces every day. We can't just make it pretty. It has to be pretty and work.
I still love the creative freedom of designing for print. But the web and it's inherently changing nature occupy most of my professional focus.
I would say that my strongest qualities are clean, goal oriented web site designs and a knack for tweaking interfaces and increasing the usability of sites which translates directly to increased ROI.
I feel grateful to have had the opportunities to become well rounded in my skillset. I have seen websites through from sitemapping, wireframing, initial designs and buildout to completion both personally and managing a team.
On a more personal note, I enjoy working out, kickboxing and traditional martial arts, my friends and family, sculpting, tinkering and scaring the cat with what passes for playing the harmonica and guitar ;)
I think humor, understanding and adapatability are key both professionally and personally.
I am still learning
